The day began early with our training starting at 8am. We met our trainer/instructor - Wit who is an experienced fighter at 28 and had learnt Muay Thai since he was Seven. He has 250 fights under his belt - 200 wins and 30 KOs. I found Wit to be easy going, humble and built like a truck. His English was excellent and we talked about the fight later in the night - which he happily offered to take us to see. So Im looking forward to that! [fairtexpattaya.com]
We happened to be the only two people working out which is nice - You have the whole gym to yourself and you get to work at your own pace. On the other hand its always great to see other fighters work on their technique and feel the energy around you motivate you. So i do hope to see more people tonight.
We started off with some skipping (10mins) and stretching then straight into the pad work - 5 rounds - very basic but controlled striking. Working on three areas - Footwork, Control and Power for the left and right punches and kicks. Physically it was not demanding and he said he would take it easy - he took his time to correct the technique and I found this to be supremely valuable.
Pad work routine: (Went roughly like this)
Cross, Elbow, Knee, Right Kick.
Left Kick, Cross, Right Kick, Cross
The final two rounds worked on the Focus Mitts for accuracy. 3 hit combos - Cross, Jab, Cross and Jab, Cross, Left, Hook.
After that I completed 100 sit ups on the decline bench and 100 push ups. Four days to go I didn't want to burn myself out until I knew what was ahead of me. Even now i find myself "dialled in" to the techniques I learnt and control that I need to apply to my striking skills.
Session two begins at 6pm. Awesome!
